Check for protection first
Some trees are covered by a Tree Preservation Order, and trees in a conservation area are protected too. Working on either without consent from South Tyneside Council is an offence. The council’s planning team can tell you whether your tree is affected.
Nesting season
From around March to August birds nest in hedges, trees and dense growth, and it is against the law to damage a nest that is in use. If you are planning work in spring or summer, a patch with a nest in it has to wait.
After a storm
A tree or large branch that has come down can shift without warning and is not a job for a hand saw. Keep clear of it and call us.

Do I need permission to cut down a tree in my garden?
