A patio is mostly what you cannot see. The slabs sit on a bed of mortar, on a compacted sub-base, on ground that has been dug out and prepared. Get those layers right and it stays flat for years. Skip one and it moves.
We build new patios and paths, including raised areas, and renovate ones that have sunk or cracked. Often the patio goes in with new turf and sleeper borders, so the whole garden is finished in one go.

Paving over more than five square metres at the front of a house usually needs planning permission unless the surface is permeable or drains onto a border or lawn. South Tyneside Council can confirm.
