What itinvolves.

A fence does two jobs: it marks what is yours, and it stands up to the weather. Near the coast the second is the harder one. We replace panels and posts that have gone, repair what can be saved, and put in new runs built for the spot they are in.

Gates are part of the same job. A double gate in the run turns a boundary into a way in for a car.

Every quote is for the job in front of us, not a rate off a list. These are the things that move it.

  1. The length of the run and its height
  2. The type of fence and posts
  3. What is there now: an old fence to take down and remove adds work
  4. The ground: slopes, roots and old concrete footings
  5. Gates, and how exposed the site is

Worth knowingbefore you book.

  • How high can it be?

As a rule a garden fence can be up to 2 metres high without planning permission, or 1 metre where it runs beside a road. Listed buildings and some estates have their own conditions, so check with South Tyneside Council if you are unsure.

  • Whose fence is it?

There is no rule that the left or the right fence is yours. The title deeds sometimes say. If it is shared or unclear, agree it with your neighbour before work starts.

  • Built for the wind

On an exposed plot a standard panel fence acts like a sail. Stronger posts, proper footings and the right style of board are what keep it up.

Questions aboutfencing.

Not answered here? Ask us, or call 07738 663396.

Do I need planning permission for a new fence?

Usually not, if it is no higher than 2 metres, or 1 metre next to a road. Some properties have extra restrictions, so check with South Tyneside Council if you are unsure.

Can you take the old fence away?

Yes. Taking down and removing the old fence is part of the job. We are a licensed waste carrier.

Can you repair a fence instead of replacing it?

Yes. We repair fences as well as replacing them. Send a photo and we will tell you which yours needs.

Can you fit a gate at the same time?

Yes. Single gates and double gates for vehicle access are often fitted as part of a fencing job.
